The Sparta United Methodists http://www.spartaumc.org are a people committed to the practice of open hearts, open minds, and open doors. With a growing congregation and the need for a fellowship hall it was decided that a new sanctuary was required to meet the ministry goals of the church.
In response, HQW Architects designed a compact, cruciform-shaped sanctuary which allows the congregation to surround the altar and have closer interaction with the ceremony than can commonly be had. The plan was designed to maximize flexibility allowing for a range of worship configurations and expanded capacity for peak services. The uplifting space is highlighted by a wood frame, cathedral ceiling finished in natural wood. The creation of this new space allowed the old sanctuary to be converted into a fellowship hall.
