Sussex County YMCA

By HQW Staff
Tuesday, December 29th, 2015

Hardyston, New Jersey
Area: 34,000 sq. ft.

The Sussex County branch of the YMCA http://metroymcas.org/html/scabout_us.cfm is dedicated to “Building strong kids, strong families amd strong communities”.  After operating out of a variety of temporary locations throughout Sussex County, it was ultimatly decided that a dedicated facility was needed in order to reach the entire community and to provide the services nessasary to meet their stated goals.

HQW Architects was commissioned to design a facility that would meet the existing needs but to do so in a manner that would allow for the future expansion of the facility.  The result is a facility that features a large swimming pool, a wellness center, cardio facilities, locker rooms and several multipurpose rooms. The glass and masonry design elements unite the exterior while delineating the building’s program spaces.  The curved roofs highlight disparate interior areas and give the building a unique character. The strategic use of daylighting allows normally dark interior spaces to be light-filled and friendly.
