The City of Cape May is a well-known example of historic preservation as the foundation of economic revitalization. McCabe & Associates, Inc. is currently conducting a historic architectural survey of the historic district core. The survey includes a thorough description, a contemporary photograph, and a map of each resource as well as a summary of research into the individual history of each historic building or structure. As well as many contributing buildings, the key individually eligible buildings surveyed so far include architect Frank Furness’s Fryer’s Cottage on Perry Street, the Stockton Row houses on Gurney Street, a Second Empire style house on Jackson Street designed by Philadelphia architect Stephen D. Button, and the former Cape May High School—now used as the City Hall.
